The principles of design and it’s impact.

Less is more

People ignore designs that ignore people, hence it is of utmost importance to take the principles of design into serious consideration before designing.

First and foremost, the fundamentals of design (lines, shapes, texture, form and balance) are the basis of every visual medium from fine art to modern web design.

Lines — which are found in all design can be used to add emphasis, divide or organize contents in order to guide the viewer’s eyes. The weight, texture and color can add to the way the design is perceived by the viewer.

Shape — we have two types of shapes which are geometric (regular) shapes and organic (freeform) shapes. This can help to organize contents as well as create simple illustrations to make your design attractive.

Balance — this is the rural distribution of visual weight.

Color: the color can draw your eyes to an image, evoke certain feelings and communicate something important without using words. The color theory happens to be a very crucial part of design principles which shouldn’t be taking for granted.

Every color evokes certain emotions and as such it is always adviced to make good color scheme. You can as well get some from some sites online.

Typography: this is the style or appearance of text. Some of the fonts we have are the serif(which is the one you’re seeing on medium) and Sans serif(without serif).

The serif happens to be those small strokes.

Serif fonts are majorly used for print media like magazines or newspaper while sans serif are used for screens.

Hierarchy, leading, tracking and kerning are also important aspects of typography. This encompass guiding the reader to what is most important before moving to the other area, line spacing, character spacing and space between specific characters.

Images.

When designing it’s important to make use of high definition images because images are just more than mere decorations: in design, they are the hook that draws the viewers in.

Compelling graphics can help you connect with the audience and make a strong impression before they even read a single word.

When it comes to images,

Bigger is better

Don’t chose an image with a low resolution because most times they’ll blur out when making large format designs. Always make sure your images are high definition and large.

In conclusion, when you ignore any of this principle, the balance of the visual you’ve created will loose it’s purpose.
